Employee Provident Fund (EPF) serves as a
savings tool for employees. The employee and the employer after the retirement
or after adjusting the jobs are contributed to equal amounts of savings.
Now you can check your EPF balance via SMS
by giving a call from the EPFO app and the EPFO portal.
By allowing employees to access EPF balance, they can easily:

1. Using EPFO Portal
Important note: To check the EPF balance,
make sure the owner has activated your Universal Account Number (UAN).
Universal Account Number or UNFF is
specifically for all employees registered under the EPF Scheme. An UAN number
is provided by the Employee Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). All employees
must have one UAN only for companies they have changed during their lifetime.
After activating your UAN number, follow these steps:
Step 1: Log into EPFO portal. Go to ‘Our
Services’ tab and select the option to say “For Employees” from the
drop-down menu. Step 2: Now click on ‘Member Pass Book’ in the
“Services” option Step 3: A login page appears. Enter your UAN number
and password here after it is activated. After logging in, you can access your
EPF account.
2. Send an SMS
Important note: Adding your KYC details,
such as Aadhaar or Pan or Bank Account details, is a must. Only then you can
get your EPF balance via SMS.
If UAN number is connected with your KYC details, follow these steps:
Step 1: Send SMS to 7738299899 to Mobile
number.
Step 2: You have to send the message as
EPFOHO UAN ENG.
You need to set your preferred language of
communication. You can do this by using the first three letters in your
preferred language. If you want to receive updates in English, use the first
three letters of the word EPFOHO UAN ENG – where ENG is in English. If you want
to update messages in Marathi, type in EPFOHO UAN MAR – MAR here stands for
Marathi.
This facility is available in
English,telugu, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, tamil, Malayalam
and Bengali.
3. By giving a missed call
Important note: You can inquire about your
EPF balance from your registered mobile number to the official phone of a
missed call. This service is only available on the integration of your UAN with
your KYC details. If you can not do this, you can take help from your employer.
After UAN is connected with your KYC
details, follow the steps below:
Step 1: Give a missing call from your
registered mobile number to 011-22901406.
Step 2: Once you have a missed call, you
will receive SMS to your PF details.
By using the EPFO app
Important note: To check your EPF balance,
make sure that the owner activates your UAN number.
You can check your EPF balance by downloading the “mp-app” of the EPFO from the Google Play Store.
Step 1: Once the app is downloaded, go to
‘Balance / Passbook’ by clicking on ‘Member’.
Step 2: Enter your UAN and Registration
Mobile number.
Your mobile number will be verified against
your UAN. If you check all the details, you can see your updated EPF balance
details. In case of an imbalance, it will display the error.
Recently, the Ministry of Electronics and
IT launched an application called “Umang”. It will merge various
government services such as Aadhaar, Gas Booking, Crop Insurance, NPS and EPF.
You can also use this application to check your EPF details. In installation,
you can find the EPFO option in the “Employee Centric Services”
option from the homepage of the app and access your EPF account details. The
app will be downloaded from the Google Play Store.
